The course is designed for students of knowledge and graduates of the ‘Alimiyyah to get a better grasp of Hanafi Usul al-Fiqh. Many of the classical books of Usul al-Fiqh can prove to be difficult to follow, so many students are left without a solid grounding in the field. Others may have studied the topic well, but require a refresher. These classes will offer the opportunity to complete Shaykh Salah Abu ‘l-Hajj’s Masar al-Wusul fi ‘Ilm al-Usul.
About the book
It is a common practice in many Islamic Universities in the Arab world to teach Usul al-Fiqh without going through a specific classical text. Subsequently, the teacher is allowed to dictate what they perceive to be the ‘correct’ Usul. This has resulted in students being taught many anomalous and unorthodox positions. What makes these texts so appealing are that they are reader-friendly, so are given preference over the study of classical texts.
Shaykh Salah Abu ‘l-Hajj noticing this problem decided to write an Usul book closely following the content found in classical Hanafi Usul but written in the style of modern Arabic books. He adds sections on the history and development of Usul al-Fiqh as well as touching on contemporary issues.
