“…The institute is built around a developed level of study, it broadens your mind to a new way of living. The style of teaching is very well adapted to the times we live in which is essential for any British Muslim seeking out Islam. I recommend the institute to all seekers of Islam and pray Allah makes it easy for you”
This course is for those who want to refresh and advance their knowledge in Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) and develop confidence in responding to normal everyday queries. ‘Alimiyya students sometimes lose touch with fiqh after the fourth year of the course or feel that they had not put sufficient effort into it during their earlier study of it. In fact many graduates who become imams or teachers start experiencing the practical demands and questions of the wider society and feel the need to reconnect with their fiqh or even undertake a fresh study of it.
If this has been your feeling then the Advanced Islamic Jurisprudence Program is designed for you.
The course will cover a detailed fiqh manual, an usul al-fiqh text, provide a better understanding of the Hanafi school, its development, objectives and its evidences, and provide detailed coverage of the most important rulings of purity, salat, funerals, fasting, zakat, hajj, marriage, divorce, and business.
This course is not as intensive or demanding as the “Specialisation in Fiqh and Ifta’ Program,” and therefore advanced students of Islamic sacred knowledge may also apply. However, sufficient Arabic skills to understand the Arabic texts covered is required.
This course is open to brothers and sisters and is also offered online.
Subjects covered (subject to change)
- A study of a detailed fiqh manual such as Al-Lubab fi Sharh al-Kitab (a commentary of Quduri rich in furu’), especially focussing on the chapters generally not covered in all ‘alimiyya programs.
- A contemporary text in Usul al-Fiqh (Masarr al-Wusul ila ‘ilm al-Usul)
- An overview of the Hanafi school through madkhal works, such as those by Naqib and Salah Abu ’l-Hajj
- Comprehensive coverage of modern-day issues and questions related to tahara, salat, fasting, zakat, hajj, funerals, marriage, divorce and business from contemporary fatwa works
- Evidence of the Hanafi school through I’la al-Sunan, Nasb al-Raya and other works
This program taken along with the Advanced Islamic Theology Program is intended to create confidence in religious leadership, imamat, chaplaincy, teaching and generally dealing with the wider intellectual, sociological and religious challenges of our times.
“Alhamdulillah very pleased to have joined this course. A must take for grads of Dars e Nizami courses. The lessons create confidence for those serving their communities as imams, teachers etc. and make up for the deficiencies/laziness from the days of studying in madrassah.
Masha’allah I can only describe the teachers as Gems, full of knowledge and also ready to help. Taking this course has opened up to me just how much more there is to learn!”
“The Advanced Jurisprudence course has been a very beneficial experience for me. Not only are the instructors demonstrably knowledgeable in their respective fields, but they are great teachers. Students are encouraged to ask questions in class and instructors make themselves available through discussion forums”
Despite being an online student and not being in-person at the Institute, I have found that the course has helped me to make the jump from simply sufficing with the text I am studying to regularly referring to other texts and resources to verify my understanding and to gain more depth, both because of the teachers and other students. It has also enabled me to understand the abwab of Fiqh much better than I had before, which in turn has increased my confidence when needing to convey masa’il to others.
It’s natural to be sceptical about anything you buy over the Internet, however by Allah’s grace, Whitethread Institute has delivered on all what they promised. The courses are taught by instructors who are very knowledge in their scope of work and have great experience behind them. Rest assured that the madrassah is founded on traditional roots with a modern approach. They successfully embody you, as a student, with the tradition of Islamic sciences, as well as exposure to its application in modern day Britain. I wholeheartedly recommend the Whitethread experience to all those seeking out spiritual and intellectual enlightenment.

I found both the Advanced Jurisprudence and the Usul al-Fiqh course well developed, with texts not studied previously in the Ālimiyyah classes, yet complementing all that which was learnt previously. The teachers were very engaging and the class was quite interactive, which really helped while studying online. I found both the courses that I took, opened my learning to knowledge that I hadn’t previously been exposed to. In the Advanced Jurisprudence class, having a period discussing controversial issues, history of the Hanafi madhab and the option to request texts to study, was extremely fruitful, especially since the teacher, Mawlana Zeeshan was extremely well read and well versed in every discussion. The book chosen for the Usul class was very thorough and written in a contemporary style, yet very comprehensive, and having the chance to study it by my mentor Sh Mufti Dr. Abdur-Rahman Mangera was really awesome. The online platform, along with Canvas & Zoom, allowed me to engage with the class at my convenience, and having access to the recordings, PDF’s of each class/text helped a lot when I couldn’t make it. Studying together with other scholars, both ‘ulamā’ & ‘alimāt, brought a maturity which was of immense benefit, and the class discussions were very educational. Being among ones own fraternity, it was much easier to learn. Since I’m in Canada, classes started for me at tahajjud time, which was amazing. The opportunity of studying ‘ilm at that time was very enlightening, though it was very challenging in the winter time. Alhamdulillah I’m extremely grateful to the staff and administrators at Whitethread for developing such post graduate courses. Having graduated almost 20 years ago, and being an Imam since then, I needed to refresh some of the more intricate areas of studying while remaining committed to my employment. I found I was able to maintain my commitment for the whole year despite multiple challenges, and I plan to continue taking classes at Whitethread. I would highly recommend studying at Whitethread for all graduates of it really helps develops the academic scholarly mindset that most graduates are aiming for, all while not overburdening the individual.

Immensely beneficial and completely interactive course, gave me the right understanding and confidence of even the most complex masa’il. In buyu’ (trade), it gave good insight in dealings with contracts of sharikah, mudarabah, waqf, hiba, wakalah, Kafalah, etc…… This course taught me to be responsible, liable, scrupulous and accountable in my everyday actions, dealings and speech. My personal message to Alims and Alimas is … take up these courses and develop yourselves in a short span of time, and become a source of guidance and spread the noor of this ilm in your community …. No words can do justice for what this course gave me. Alhamdulillah.
